Jillian Owens Liebl
Jillian Owens Liebl never imagined she'd become a tipi-dwelling, buckskin-wearing primitive skills practitioner "when she grew up." Her likeliest choices at an early age were "princess" or "ballerina." Jillian's life changed in 2013 when she and her husband Sam lived at Earth Knack Stone-Age Living Skills in Crestone, CO, as interns and then as instructors. Jillian loves willow basketry, buckskin clothes making, and wild food harvesting and preservation. Her greatest skill and passion is event planning, and she is also a certified vinyasa yoga instructor. At Rift Valley, Jillian hopes to make primitive technology appealing and approachable for the average city-dweller.
Sam Liebl began eating insects and wild plants at an early age and hasn't stopped since. Though he grew up near Houston, Texas, he feels at home in the Rockies and is continually fascinated by the question of how to subsist in this harsh but abundant bioregion. Sam has a broad skill set, but he counts braintanning, edible/medicinal plants, and making footwear as his specialties. His other interests include rock climbing, trail running, long-distance hiking, and writing prose. He recently sewed a 16-foot tipi from canvas and buckskin, and plans to hike the Pacific Crest Trail using only stone-age gear with is wife, Jillian.
